Knowledge Center

Use PBE’s Knowledge Center to learn more about power quality— definitions, standards,, case studies & important links to other industry resources.

Discussion of definitions from industry standards:

  • Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE) – the leading national authority that publishes many PQ & EMC standards. Discussion & examples of their definitions are presented here as a PBE Engineer’s educational resource.
  • International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) – the leading international authority that publishes many PQ & EMC standards. Discussion & examples of their definitions are presented here as a PBE Engineer’s educational resource. In addition, discussion of how IEEE standards are being harmonized with IEC standards (and vice versa) will be provided here soon. Discussion on other US & international standards & their definitions will be published here soon as well.

Case Studies

Here you will learn about real-world PQ & EMI problems that actually occurred in customer facilities. Each case study is sanitized to redact the customer’s name, location & other information related to the case. Case studies are presented here as learning tools for end users to read & compare some of their details to actual problem situations that PBE Engineers worked to help customers understand, identify, solve & prevent. Why are case studies important?

  • They teach end users the story behind these problems is important when it comes to making a decision to have PBE Engineer’s experts evaluation your facility & its problematic equipment as soon as possible, rather than letting problems linger causing large financial impacts on your facility & business.
  • They help end users understand the progression of how PQ & EMC problems develop; that is, how to start recognizing that a problem is staring to develop, what to recognize as signs of problems & how to assemble your information when discussing your problems with PBE Engineers.
  • They help end users understand the financial impacts that can occur in facilities & businesses when PQ & EMC problems first develop & could progress to becoming large problems if end users don’t make a decision to move forward with having a detailed evaluation done at their facility / business.

Standards

Here you will learn more about the US & International standards written on PQ & EMC, how they can be applied to understanding more about the PQ & EMC philosophies. This is designed to be a resource to viewers to keep up to date on the development & publication of these standards. Although standards development takes a while, it is important for end users to understand which standards are being developed, their progress & how they can be applied to help you learn more about PQ & EMC problems.
